The remains of the pioneer National Chairman of People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Solomon Lar who died on October 9 arrived Abuja Friday morning for the final burial rites. The corpse was received at the corpse of the elder statesman at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport
Plateau State Governor Jonah Jang also announced the re-naming of the Plateau State University after Late Lar apart from declaring three day of mourning in his honour.
Vice President Mohammed Sambo who led the Federal Government’s delegation on a condolence visit to the late Lar’s family described the late Solomon Lar as a father, uncle brother and a leader who has devoted his life to the service of the nation, Africa and the rest of humanity.
He added that the nation would miss his wise counsel great wisdom and invaluable contributions and prayed for the repose of the soul of the deceased and for God to grant the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
In her response, the widow of the deceased, Professor Amb Mary Lar, expressed her delight in having such a high delegation in her home who had came to pay their homage, which has demonstrated the high esteem the nation held her late husband According to the widow, the late Solomon Lar died with the concern of the nation. His thought was for the wellbeing of his country and his belief in Nigeria’s greatness. She thanked the Federal Government for the grand reception accorded them at the airport when the body of her late husband arrived the country today and expressed her gratitude for the government’s show of concern.
Those in the Federal Government’s delegation include the Chief of Staff to the President Mike Oghiadomhe, former PDP Chairman Halliru Mohammed, Deputy Chief of Staff Kachallah Abubakar, Special Adviser on Special Duties Senator Isaiah Balat, Amb Hassan Adamu (Wakilin Adamawa), Special Adviser Political to the President (office of the Vice President) Abba Dabo and Sen Walid Jibril amongst others and the delegation was received at the deceased compound by Professor Jerry Gana and the Minister of Water Resources Sarah Ochekpe.
