My boys are behind illegal refineries–Dakorou

A traditional ruler from Bayelsa State, His Royal Highness, Dr. Edmund Dakorou Mingi XII – Amanyanabo of Nembe-Se, on Monday in Abuja stunned delegates at the National Conference when he said that the operators of illegal refineries especially in the Niger-Delta were his “boys.”

Dakorou, a former President of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries and a former Minister of State (Energy) said this at the plenary during the consideration of recommendations of the Confab Committee on Science and Technology on to harness illegal refineries for better performance.

The monarch, however, commended delegates “for voting wisely” against illegal refineries.

Dakorou said, “I commend my fellow delegates for voting against illegal refineries. I also voted against it even though those behind it are my boys.”

During plenary, many recommendations of the committee were defeated when voting started on Monday.

Both the committee voted in support of plans to monitor activities on the social media networks, saying they should be used for the development of the society and not otherwise.

Meanwhile, the chairman of the Conference, Justice Idris Legbo Kutigi, has proposed an amendment to the proceedings of the confab.

He advocated that in order to beat the deadline set by the Federal Government for the confab to submit its recommendations, certain adjustments had to be made.

Kutigi said, “Beginning from today (Monday), we only have five weeks to conclude the conference and submit our recommendations to the government. We are proposing an amendment to the proceedings of the conference.

“We are suggesting that when we call chairmen to present their reports, instead of calling on delegates to speak one after the other, we will skip that hurdle. Those who have amendments will be called to submit them to the secretariat. That will strengthen our efforts to do this thing properly.”
